This next edition of MMP's Singles series is on the F-4B Phantom II. This was the first fully operational F-4 with the A model mostly used for testing and training. It was the B model that the Navy took into Vietnam. It was fairly successful as an air to air fighter, but, thanks to less than optimal air to air missiles and the lack of a gun, didn't overwhelm the older, more maneuverable North Vietnamese MiG-17s. The type was later upgraded to the F-4N which had improved electronics, engines, and missiles. It served into the late 1970s and early 1980s until replaced by the F-14 Tomcat.
In line with the other releases, this one is in the large A4 size with several distinct sections. There is no history of the type, but there are superbly done plans in 1/72 scale. The book includes a goodly number of illustrations of various parts of the plane from technical manuals along with photos showing the entire aircraft and some details. The book finishes up with large, full page color views of a VF-51 aircraft from the USS Coral Sea in June of 1972.
It is another great addition to the MMP family of books that offers all that both the modeler and the enthusiast are seeking in a plans/detail book on a specific aircraft without going into a ton of detail. I found it be well done and one that I can highly recommend to you.
