This next edition of MMP's Singles series is on the Messerschmitt Bf-108B-2 'Taifun'. Many will instantly recognize it as being the progenitor of the Bf-109 as that aircraft was, to all intents and purposes, a fighter version of the 108. The Bf-108 was arguably the most successful of the Messerschmitt civil designs as it was fast, carried its passengers in comfort, and was quite popular with those who flew it. It was not without vices as it had the same short, close main landing gear as the later 109. This design was to enable the wings to be folded for improved storage when not in use. The 108 continued to be built during the war with production switched to Nord in France. Post war, the aircraft stayed in production and was improved into a tricycle landing gear variant.
In line with the other releases, this one is in the large A4 size with several distinct sections. There is no history of the type, but there are superbly done plans in both 1/48 and 1/72 scale. Because of the size of the plans, there are no fuselage cross sections that are in other editions. The book includes a goodly number of photos showing both the entire aircraft and some details. A real plus to this are a number of illustrations from the airframe manuals. The book finishes up with large, full page color views of an in-service example.
It is another great addition to the MMP family of books that offers all that both the modeler and the enthusiast are seeking in a plans/detail book on a specific aircraft without going into a ton of detail. I found it be well done and one that I can highly recommend to you.
