This next
volume from MMP Books' Color & Scale series is on the Fairchild A-10A
Thunderbolt II. This is often considered to be the US Air Force's premier ground
attack aircraft. It was designed so that the aircraft could lose major sections
of the airframe and still bring its pilot home. Indeed, during the many times it
has been in combat, just that has happened, proving the design. Like the Soviet
IL-2, the cockpit area is in an armored tub and there are a ton of different
weapons pylons to allow a wide variety of ordnance to be carried. It is also an
airplane that the USAF really did not want as it isn't 'cool', but they also
didn't want to provide it to the Army, who did want the plane. Though its demise
has been predicted several times. the aircraft has been upgraded and continues
in service.
This volume includes plans in 1/72 as 1/48 would be too big to fit on the pages. There are a variety of color profiles including some of the special 'jaws' schemes for which both upper and lower plan views are provided. This makes this volume particularly useful for modelers who wish to duplicate these complex schemes. As usual, the last page is an explanation of all the profiles in Polish.
In all, it is turning into an interesting series. You can count on others to come covering other types.
