Notes: Markings for four aircraft.

This is the first set of a new series on aircraft units. So far, it looks as if the Luftwaffe will be the target, but things may change in that regard. This is really more than a book that something that one would consider a decal set, but since it has decals in it and it is not in their usual book format, I will put it down as a decal set. This series is designed to give a brief overlook of famous units and is as much a photo presentation as anything. There are are 45 photos in its 30 pages along with several pages of full page, color profiles that cover the four sets of markings provided. This is one set that is only in English and it is appropriate that they start with JG 52 which included such aces as Erich Hartmann, Galland, Bartels, Rall, Barkhorn and Graf, just to name some of the more prominent personalities.

The markings cover four aircraft and provide the unique markings for a variety of Bf-109s. Though not in the order shown in the illustration pinched from the Kagero web site, they are:

- Messerschmitt Bf 109 E-3; 'Yellow 5' of 9./JG 52, Coquelles, France, July 1940,

- Messerschmitt Bf 109 F-2, W.Nr. 8165, flown by Oblt. Karl-Heinz Leesmann, Gruppenkommandeur of I./JG 52, Leeuwarden, the Netherlands, June 1941,

- Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-4; W.Nr. 19249, 'White 10', flown by Lt. Alfred Grislawski of 7./JG 52, Taman, Russia, late April 1943,

- Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-10/U4; 'Yellow 11' of II./JG 52, München-Neubiberg, May 1945.

The decals themselves are superbly printed by Cartograf and each of the large profiles on these planes provides color and detail information that the modeler will need to build a nice replica. As you can see, all the major scales are covered making this a very useful set. If you are a fan of the 109 or the Luftwaffe, then you should seriously consider picking this one up.
