This is
the second of the booklet/decal sheets that covers famous aces and in this
case those aces are Josef 'Pips' Priller, Hans Waldmann, and Wolfgang
Späte. Now most of us have heard of 'Pips' Priller, a rather outspoken
fighter pilot who, along with his wingman, were the only Luftwaffe pilots
to actually attack the invasion forces in Normandy during 6 June, 1944. If
we haven't heard of Wolfgang Späte, then we at least are aware of his red
painted Me-163B. The 'unknown' to most of us is Hans Waldemann. This pilot
was able to amass over 125 victories before being killed in a mid-air
collision with another Me-262 while operating in low clouds.
As with the previous book, this one covers the more important parts of the pilot's careers, just to give a taste of what it was like and to give the reader some background to the men involved.
Included
with this edition is a decal sheet in 1/72, 1/48 and 1/32 scale that covers
five different aircraft as flown by these men. All five planes are covered
by color profiles within the book so painting and decal placement shouldn't
be a problem. The markings include: Späte's red Me-163, Waldemann's Black 2
Bf-109G-2 and his Yellow 3 Me-262, and Priller's Black 13 FW-190A-8 as
flown on D-Day and his FW-190A-3, Black double arrow, when he was with
III./JG 26 in 1942. The decals are by Techmod so you know they are quality
markings. As with all the sheets in Kagero books, these provide only the
unique markings; the rest to come from other sheets or the kit decals.
Another fine publication from Kagero and highly recommended for the Luftwaffe fan out there.
