This latest CD from Aero Research is a special release to cover the C-46 Commando. The C-46 was able to fly farther and carry more cargo at a higher speed than the C-47. However, it was a more complex aircraft that require more maintenance than the C-47. It was not built in near the same numbers as the C-47 so when the war ended and the type was put on the surplus market, most operators went with the cheaper C-47.

This did not mean the the C-46s just sat in the desert. There were operators who appreciated the additional power, carrying capacity and speed of the Commando. The type was also able to fly well in hot and high situations, making it popular with South American operators whe flew out of Andean airports.

This disc has a goodly number of both civilian and military operators, with the major use being with civilian passenger and cargo operators. Most images are from the 50s-early70s so you have a nice mix of both color and black and white images. As in all their offerings, you get over 150 images. I have reviewed the Pdf version, where the images are not as large as on the CD, but then again, there is no shipping involved.

In all, it makes for a great photo compilation on an interesting and somewhat forgotten type.
