Their latest book from Pen & Sword's series on military vehicles concentrates on the Nashorn, a self propelled tank destroyer, built on a Panzer IV chassis. All of the fighting powers in Europe used vehicles such as this, but none were quite as varied as the different ones operated by the German Army.

None of these vehicles were all new as they were all built on various tank chassis. As the war progressed, these became larger and larger as the need to mount a larger and larger gun became necessary to defeat enemy tanks.

Initially built in mid-1943, fewer than 500 vehicles were built by the end of the war. Yet they proved to be highly effective thanks to the flat trajectory of the 88mm gun that was mounted on most of them. Others had a 15cm howitzer and were used as mobile artillery.

The book starts with a brief history of the type and with the various units that operated the vehicle. A section of the book is dedicated to full color profiles of specific vehicles, often including photographes of the actual subject. Probably the largest portion is a modeling section. This includes a number of builds in both 1/35 and 1/72 scale. A section on kits and aftermarket is also part of this section. It covers mostly what is available at the time of the book's writing.

In all, this series has become a favorite of many modelers and enthusiasts alike. It is well worth picking up if you are an enthusiast of armor or the modeling of it.
