The next offering from Pen & Sword's Tank Craft series covers the Sherman in service with Canadian, New Zealand, and South African forces during the Italian campaign of 1943-45. The way this series is run is actually pretty smart. While the same subject may be covered in multiple volumes, each concentrates on a specific time and place. This allows the series to have longevity and also allows each edition to have a degree of specificity that some others of this type will not have. The Italian campaign is one that hasn't been covered as much as other theaters of operation, so it is nice to see a book that focuses there.

The book is basically divided into several sections. The first is on the units involved. Here we are provided a brief history of the unit's operations during the time in question. This section also provides a look at what comprises the brigade or division involved. Next is a camouflage and markings section that provides a goodly number of color profiles based on photos in the book. A model building section is next, followed by a section on available kits and accessories. Finally, one on technical details and modifications. This final section has period detail images showing the differences between variants and the upgrades made.

This is a nice addition to the series and is the type of book to appeal to enthusiasts and modelers alike. Well worth picking up.
