This ATB book covers an important battle in the German invasion of Greece in 1941. Specifically the battle for Pineios Gorge. It was hear that the Germans were able to breach the defensive line made up of Greek and New Zealand units. This resulted in the withdrawl of Commonwealth troops to Crete, allowing for the fairly rapid takeover of the rest of Greece and the eventual capitulation of the government.

After the Battle books are fairly interesting in terms of histories. Not only is the history of the event in question provided, but also a lot of photographs of the campaign. What the authors attempt to do is to match period photos with how that particular area looks today. This is done by trying to find the exact spot from which the photograph was taken and to match various landmarks to provide a comparison. As you might imagine, this can be difficult as vegetation has grown or roads no longer exist or even the landscape has been altered to put in things like houses and infrastructure. However, the author does his best and often succeeds to provide the vista needed.

Not all the images have their modern day duplicate, in fact, most period images are stand alone. However they do enhance the history along with maps to provide context to the volume. In all, it makes for a very interesting read, especially when it comes to events such as this which have not been widely done. I know you will like it as much as did I.
