Pen & Sword have chosen to cover the three battles of El Alamein for their next title in their popular Images of War series. These books are foremost photo books using period images taken from a variety of sources. Those of us who have been alive a long time will recognize one or two, but the majority of images are ones I cannot recall having seen before. The majority of images are from the Allies, though there are a fair number of German and Italian photos to help round things out.

There are introductions to the three battles provided in the book. Each of these gives a good synopsis of the situation before, during and after each battle. The introduction to the book itself if fairly complete in terms of the war situation in North Africa from the start when it was an Italian-only campaign.

But what makes the book worth having are the images. There are over 250 of them, all chosen to represent the salient sections of the book. They provide a look at what these men had to deal with during the campaign. Well worth picking up.
