Helion's books on the Ukraine War continues with this volume on Ukrainian and Western designed artillery systems. This one covers the period from 2022 to 2024. The previous volume looked at Soviet systems, of which Ukraine had a fair number. However, those were, in many cases, while still usable, fairly out of date.

Modern Western systems have, in some cases, the ability for the munition to home in on a specific locale. It is a situation where the coordinates are fed into the gun, and that is where the munitions strikes. It is a bit more than that simple explanation, but that is the gist of it. Now much of the initial run of 'foreign' artillery was from the US. In this case, there was the M109 SPG and the M777 towed artillery. However, somewhat later in the conflict, Ukraine got some technologically advanced systems from Germany such as the Panzerhaubitze 2000, which in many ways is the gold standard of Western artillery systems. They also got some DANA systems from the Czechs.

In addition to these, there were some locally produced artillery that was often based in part on older Soviet hardware. I mean, a tank hull is a tank hull and most are capable of being adapted to carry fairly large artillery guns. One thing that is not covered in this volume are various rocket systems. I have a feeling that those will be in a future edition.

As in the previous edition, each system is discussed in some depth, including any upgrades made by Ukraine as a result of war experience. The book is well written and heavily illustrated, so there are lots of nice photos that should encourage modelers and enthusiasts alike. It is a book that I very much enjoyed reading and I know you will as well.
