This is the second volume of a look at the operations of the P-40 in the north of the Soviet Union. A goodly number of P-40s were provided to the Soviet Union with a lot of the aircraft used by various units of the Northern Fleet doing battle in the north around the port of Murmansk. While the Soviets actually preferred the P-39, the P-40 had longer range and was a better platform for reconnaissance and anti-shipping work.

Why you'd expect these aircraft to be mostly used for air to air combat, however, those sorts of events were few and far between. The vast number of missions were reconnaissance or ground attack missions. Actually ground attack might be a stretch for most of those missions as they were more correctly anti-shipping missions. The Germans had a great amount of shipping coming up the coast of Norway, providing cargo to those units in northern Norway and Finland.

The book continues where volume 1 left off with missions flown in 1944/45. It provides information on specific missions, complete with pilot stories, photographs, and maps. In addition there is the usual color center section of profiles and other artwork. It provides a look at the sort of flying that these pilots were subject to during Arctic combat. A very interesting book and well worth picking up.
