Probably the most secretive nation on Earth is North Korea. It is obvious that the leadership is a dictator who tightly controls every aspect of what is pretty much a backwards nation in most respects. Its people are basically peasants, eking out an existence with little hope of getting out from under the thumb of the state.

About the only way to get out of this abject poverty is to join the military. At least there you will have food, clothing, and housing. It is not, therefore, surprising that North Korea has a huge standing army for a nation of its size. While it seems like most of the money for the military is spent on their nuclear program, the country has to also consider upgrading their standing army, which is currently using obsolete or at least obsolescent equipment.

Despite the difficulty of obtaining any sort of information out of North Korea, the authors have done a great job of providing an excellent look at the current situation. This book is divided into several sections including a preamble that provides a look at the past history of the army before delving into the various sections. This includes the infantry, APCs, and fire support vehicles. The book also covers the army's organization as well as the overall strategy. The book includes the usual profiles and a lot of nice photos, many of them from the Korean Central Broadcasting Committee. In all, it makes for a very interesting book on a subject that fascinates many who like modern history.
