Like a number of modelers, I'm rather ignorant of the aircraft of the Israeli Air Force. Most of what I have in my library on the subject is rife with crudely retouched images where the censor has removed serials or unit badges. Not exactly the best to have when trying to research a model.
From the fine folks that produce Isradecals comes an outstanding reference book on the F-16C/D Barak (Lightning). Thanks to the cancellation of the Lavi program, Israel was looking for a modern fighter to replace some of the Kfir units and the US offered block 30 and block 40 versions of its F-16C/D Falcons. Israel purchased these aircraft in two batches, the first for block 30 aircraft and the second for block 40 aircraft.
Israeli F-16Ds are unlike those used by other countries, who primarily use the two seaters as trainers. The D model Baraks are fully combat capable aircraft whose back seater tasks can be likened to that of the WSO (weapons system operator) of an F-4 Phantom. The aircraft includes an enlarged dorsal spine that carry mission avionics.
This 98 page soft cover book covers the differences between the aircraft in considerable detail as well as providing a historical background of each of the squadrons currently operating the type. There are hundreds of quality color images without any censorship in terms of markings and codes. This is only enhanced by equally superbly done color profiles. An added bonus is a series of closeup images of salient features of each type as well as the stores that are carried by the Barak.
The bottom line is that this is the finest publication yet available on the type. A MUST for enthusiasts of the IAF and for any modeler who wants to accurately portray the type in plastic.
