NOTES: Vinyl Mask Set

An accessory that has been growing in popularity over the years are vinyl mask sets. Mostly they were used for canopy masks and have become very popular. Another use for these have been for camouflage masks.

The initial offerings of the Tomahawk to the RAF were hand sprayed. Later batches had Curtis using plywood masks and that included those sent to the AVG. This particular set will allow you to duplicate the camouflage schemes of either the RAF planes or those used by the Flying Tigers. For the latter, the circles you see have been included to simulate the overpainted roundels. Others are for the upper and lower fuselage demarcation line and for the fuselage band when it was used.

The sheet basically has you paint the lighter shade first (after the bands and underside), then apply the masks and do the darker color.

These sets come in four scales; 1/72, 1/48, 1/32, and 1/24 with the price being different for each one. This set is 1/48 scale and I know it will come in very handy. Check them out at the links below. I should mention that shipping from the UK to the US is no where near as pricey as the other way.

I should also mention that this set cooperated in that I was able to get a good scan of the sheets that didn't show a solid mass. I wasn't so lucky with others!
