PlasticModelCanada Building Fixture

Building Jigs are an accessory that has grown in popularity over the years. They can be as simple as cut out pieces of carboard to more elaborate items such as this item from PlasticModelCanada.

The design of the fixture is well thought out and provides the sort of support that one seeks from such a jig. Everything is adjustable, making it useful for a variety of scales. This one appears to be the basic model and is recommended for scale up to 1/48 as long as the subject is not something like a Lancaster.

The parts are well thought out and nicely molded. I'm almost thinking they are 3D printed plastic, but don't know for sure. The base is in a cross shape. On the long axis one places the nose and tail stands. These have the holding area covered with an adhesive foam strip to keep the plastic from scratching the model. On the sides are two very complex looking pieces. These also have foam strip covered areas and are useful for either building a triplane or, as stated in the info sheet that came with the jig, for transporting models. The parts of the fixture that hold the wings are equipped with rubber bands to hold them securely.

Thanks to the hold down screws, these four items can be slid along the cross to properly encase whatever size model you are working on. The side pieces have additional movement in angle, if that is needed.

This is the basic fixture with PlasticModelCanada offering others of increasing size along with an expansion pack. There are also sets for vehicles. These fixtures can be found at this link. Very much worth looking into.
