Valiant Air Command - Warbird Museum - Air Show - Titusville Florida
by: John Sheehan
Introduction:
During my recent vacation to Florida, some family friends took the bride and myself to this little Museum in Titusville Florida. The Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum is a 501(c)(3) Educational Museum, non-profit, dedicated to the preservation of aviation history for future generations.
Valiant Air Command (VAC) is close by to the Kennedy Space Center.
What is There:
The museum itself is broken up into 3 areas.
The first area is the gift shop. They have a variety of goods for sale there. They carried shirts with your favorite WWII and some modern aircraft, (The Hawaiian shirt covered in bombers personally tempted me) pins books posters and the like. This area also had a small café with vending machines with sodas and chips.
The next area was the first part of the museum itself. This area carried all sorts of memorabilia from conflicts back from WWI to Present day. They have many uniforms there, a Japanese uniform come to mind right now with all or most of the gear that a pilot would carry with himself. One of my favorite displays was an old “LIFE” magazine with Jimmy Stewart on the covered signed by him to the Museum. Oh by the way, “There be models there”, some are showing their age but it is nice to see them.
Now, to the reason for the museum, the Hangers. The first hanger is were they are keeping the restored aircraft. You can walk up and touch these guys. The only problem is that it is a small area and the aircraft are packed in tight. Makes it a little hard to take an over all picture of a particular aircraft, I was not happy with myself for only having one roll of film on me. (Yes I am a traditionalist when it comes to certain things!)
The next hanger is were the restore the old lovely ladies of the sky! They had a C-47 (sorry I only got the wings, the main fuselage did not come out sorry fella’s), an ME-208, A-4 ect.
The staff, were eager and loved what they were doing. It was a joy for myself, to see someone get excited by what they were going there. It was an enjoyable visit. I would defiantly go back there again when I am in the area.
Editor's addition. David Pennington also visited and here are the images he has supplied from his trip.
