This sheet provides markings for one aircraft, “Ruby’s Raiders”, a B-17G-50-DL of the 55th Bomb Squadron, 385th Bomb Group, named in honor of Corporal Ruby Newell of the 3rd Bomb Division staff, who was named “Most Beautiful WAC in the ETO” in a Stars & Stripes reader’s poll.
The decal sheet includes the red checkerboard for the vertical fin, the serial number and ID letters, and the group insignia. National insignia for this airplane is available on “National Insignia Part 3 or 4" CED 48-262 or 48-263
The airplane was a brand-new B-17G equipped with the “Cheyenne” tail turret and the stepped waist windows, which means that only the out-of-production Pro-Modeler release of the B-17G will be an appropriate kit, unless the modeler obtains the conversion set from Koster Aero Enterprises.
The nose art for this airplane is very striking. The modeler should very definitely read the instructions that are included regarding how to apply the PYN-up decals, since their production makes them very different from the standard decals everyone is familiar with. Cutting Edge strongly recommends that no decal solvent other than Micro-Sol or Micro-Set be used on these decals.
Only 300 copies of this decal sheet will be produced.
