Vought
Aviation’s highly capable A-7 Corsair II served in both the U.S. Navy and
the Air Force as well as other nations. Making its debut with the Navy in
1967, Corsair IIs were finally replaced by the F/A-18 in 1991 after serving
in Operation Desert Shield/ Desert Storm.
This
sheet offers 3 largely dull low-visibility options that the Corsairs used
near their end. Instructions call for these birds to be entirely painted in
Medium Gray FS 36375 before adding the decals.
The first example is the CAG bird from the Sidewinders of VA-86, flying from the USS Nimitz. VA-105 is represented on the second option, and the only thing separating this plane from others marking-wise is they use light gray with black lettering in places (how imaginative!). The final example uses the dark gray data stencils found on the sheet allowing you to depict a plane from the “Rampagers” of VA-83 and this one uses only dark gray data markings.
A-7E kits have been made by Esci, Fujimi, Matchbox, Hobby Boss, and Airfix should you decide to build one of these sturdy attack aircraft. Note that Italeri has reboxed the ESCI kit. The Fujimi kit can also be found in Testors boxes.
