Aeromaster 72-171 Stinging Hornets pt.1

PRICE: $
DECALS: Three options
REVIEWER: David Traill
NOTES: Units: VFA-192, VFA-86, VMFA-451

This sheet is the first in a series of three put out by AeroMaster in 1/72 in 1999 for modelers to choose from. This one offers three aircraft to choose from, two Navy and one Marine although full markings are only possible for one plane.

All three are in the typical Tactical Paint Scheme of FS 36375 and 36320.

First up is an F/A-18A from VFA-192 from the well-known Golden Dragons while they were based at NAS Atsugi in Japan. It carries markings denoting the unit’s 50th anniversary in 1995. The second choice, a C model, dates from 1996/7 when the F/A-18Cs of VFA-86 Sidewinders aboard the George Washington visited Fort Lauderdale. The lone Marine example is from VMFA-451 when the squadron took part in Operation Desert Storm in 1991.

The manufacturer’s instructions say the decals are designed for Hasegawa kits but if you choose to use a Fujimi kit some trimming of the decals will be necessary in places.
