True Details 1/48 P-61 props & cowlings upgrade set
|Revell/Monogram and Great Wall kit|
A few days back, I reviewed a set of props and spinners for the two 1/48 Black Widows on the market. Both the older Monogram and newer Great Wall Hobby P-61 Black Widow are fine kits in their own right. Both are generally quite accurate and build into large models. However, the Great Wall kit has been lambasted for having prop blades that are not the correct shape and a cowling opening that is too small, among other 'problems'.
This new set from True Details corrects all of those errors by providing a new set of propellers, a new pair of cowlings as well as engine detail in the form of new reduction gear fairings and new magnetos. The kit has separate blades that easily slot into the new hubs. I have built TD props like this and they truly are simple to assemble. The set comes with full instructions on what needs to be modified on the kit part to get the engine bits to properly fit.
Not only are these parts superbly molded and free from glitches, but they will not break the bank in their purchase. If you have the Great Wall kit and want to take care of these issues, you really need to get this set.
My thanks to Squadron Products for the review set. Get these at your local shop or have them order a set for you.
