The second new 1/72 F-4 sheet is this one for USN aircraft. Both are in the very colorful light gull grey and white scheme. The recommended kit is the Hasegawa version, but that is as much due to current (May 2004) availability as anything else. Kits by Monogram, Fujimi, ESCI and Italeri, to name a few, have been produced that could easily be used for these markings.
First up is an F-4J from VF-74 as flown during Linebacker operations in 1972 with its huge lightning bolt motif on the fuselage.
A bit less colorful is the F-4B from VF-84. The Jolly Rogers emblem has been a very popular scheme with modelers. As with the previous scheme tail and/or wing tips will have to be painted to match the decal colors.
Enough common markings are supplied for one complete aircraft.
