The Luftwaffe's most prolific and useful bomber was the Junkers 88. Unlike the He-111 and Dornier bombers, the Ju-88 was developed just prior to the war and so was built to be fast and able to carry a decent bomb load. However, it was still very much a tactical bomber, and what Germany really wanted was a long range strategic bomber. It was also hampered by the unreasonable requirement to be a dive bomber!

Rarely used in that category, the Ju-88 went on to fulfill many other roles and ended the war as a very potent night fighter. However, it was as a bomber that it made its original mark, especially during the Blitz of 1940. It was during that campaign that the Ju-88 was fully tested against a modern air defense. While it suffered along with its Dornier and Heinkel compatriots, it was more able to return its crews than the other bombers.

This Superscale sheet is for a trio of Ju-88s. Unfortunately, only one can be built from current unmodified kits as the A-1 variant had a shorter wing from later versions. However, it  is not beyond the abilities of intermediate modelers to make this relatively simple modification.

First plane is a Ju-88A-1 of 7./KG 51 during the Battle of Britain. It is in the standard bomber scheme of RLM 70/71 over RLM 65.

A Ju-88A-11 from 3./LG 1 is next. It is in the normal desert scheme of RLM 79 over RLM 65.

Finally a Russian Front Ju-88A-1 of 5.(F)/122 operating in a photo recon role. This aircraft is in standard bomber scheme with a dirty overall white temporary paint  coat .
