Originally designed as a long range escort fighter, the F-82 looks like no more than two P-51 fuselages mated together, but the actual aircraft is really only superficially like that, being basically a whole new plane. Few, if any, parts are interchangeable. With the advent of jet power, the type was developed into a night fighter and was quite successful in that role at the start of the Korean war. Once replaced in that role, the plane quickly disappeared, with only one or two being saved for museums.

This is another elderly sheet from the 70s, as shown by the $2.00 price tag! It offers a variety of F-82 sub-variants.

Starting at the top, is an F-82F of the 52nd All Weather Fighter Squadron with a blue tail. You have to paint the blue. Your author built this version back about two decades ago, but used what I think is too dark a blue and has not built this kit since (see image below).

The next version is also a black painted night fighter, but this time, it is an F-82G from the 4th FS.

Finally a bare metal F-82E from the 27 Fighter Escort Squadron with nice yellow bands and red painted nose and fin tips. This unit transitioned to F-84s, which it then took to Korea and used as fighter-bombers!

There is just one kit for this sheet and that is the still very nice Monogram version. What is really needed are a few resin bits to fix it up, but it holds up well even if done straight from the box.
