The terror of the early war in Europe was the Stuka. Equipped with sirens that howled as the plane dived, the Ju-87 was able to wreak havoc against military as well as civilian targets in Poland, Belgium, Netherlands and France. Of course, the Germans basically had control of the air, a requirement to keep the ponderous Stuka from being an easy target. Once deployed against the RAF in the Battle for Britain, the Ju-87 units were decimated. They were then sent to other theatres of operation where the Lufwaffe was able to maintain local air superiority and again they were effective weapons.
This Superscale sheet has markings for three Ju-87Bs. All three are from the Eastern front circa 1941 where they were quite effective against Soviet forces. The appropriate theater markings and large unit badges add some color to the aircraft.
First is a JU-87B-2 from Stuka Gruppe 3 with yellow cowling, rudder and underwing markings, but no fuselage stripe. The color shown is RLM 70 upper surfaces, but I'd want to look at any photographs before painting it that color. Often old photos have trouble differentiating between the to upper surface colors as they were very close to each other.
The Ju-87B-1 from StG 77 is also show in a single upper color and this one has a yellow fuselage band in addition to the other markings of the first plane. Some kit modification may have to be done to build a B-1 as most Stuka kits in 1/48 are of the B-2 variant.
Finally another B-2 from StG 77. This one is devoid of the yellow nose and rudder and is shown in the 79/71 upper with 65 lower scheme.
All three have very colorful unit badges and should really make your next Stuka kit look good.
