This particular sheet comes at a most appropriate time, considering the CAG feature that I have started. VFA-113 was one of the first Navy squadrons to get the F-18, trading in its trusty A-7E Corsair IIs to get this wunderfighter. With the introduction of the F-18 to the fleet in the mid-1980s, was also the introduction of the Tactical Paint Scheme and the loss of all color from Navy tactical aircraft.

Fortunately for all of us, that only lasted a relatively short while, and though the colors came back in small steps, some of today's CAG birds are as colorful as those of the heydays of the 60's and 70s.

Though I'm not sure if VFA-113 started the black-tailed CAG bird craze, it has certainly had some of the coolest designs. The one on this sheet is the most recent. In fact, this is one of those rare Superscale sheets that only has one subject on it; common enough in 1/32, but rare in 1/48.

You get a full stencil suite with this one as well as walkways. A very nice touch is that the lettering that goes over the colored tail bands is given twice. This way there will be minimal, if any, bleed-through as the decals that go over them are white.

A really super sheet and one that I'm sure I'll see lots of in the upcoming years.
