AWell, here we are with yet another Microscale F-4 Phantom II decal sheet. This particular one is all USAF Phantoms; an F-4C and two F-4Es. They are all in the SEA camouflage of two greens and a tan upper with light grey undersides.

The thing about modeling Phantoms is that you have such a wide variety of different schemes to do them in. Once you decide on a camo scheme, you are then given the unenviable task of deciding what unit to have your aircraft represent. I don't think that I'd be far from wrong to state that there are probably as many different Phantom decal sheets as there are for the P-51D or even, perhaps, the ubiquitous Bf-109, as far-fetched as that might seem.

A really nice thing about modeling more modern aircraft such as the Phantom II, is that it isn't difficult to find photos of the aircraft in question. And often in color as well. Doubt if it is that easy to do with the 109.

Well, on to the sheet. This one has three aircraft with markings for one of them. This sheet is just chock full of stencils, so I know that when it is used, it will give the builder hours of pleasure putting them all on. There is a comprehensive placement diagram on the back of the instruction sheet showing where they go so that is a blessing.

The F-4C is from the 36th TFS/ 3rd TFW at Kusan Korea circa 1973. This aircraft had seen action in Vietnam and is accompanied by a Mig kill for the splitter plate. This aircraft went on to serve with the 111FIS, Texas ANG.

Next is a 3 TFW F-4E from Clark AFB, Philippines. These marks were used for a gunnery competition. This aircraft also sports a Mig kill.

Finally an F-4E from the 45th TFS/1st TFW at McDill AFB, Florida. The pilot of this aircraft was a double Mig killer in Vietnam though this particular plane doesn't show his kills. 68-0420 ended its US life with the 113th TFS/181st TFW at Hulman Field in Terra Haute, Indiana. It may still be flying with either the Greek or Turkish Air Force.
