Thanks to two recent 1/48 F-106A sheets, we now have a very nice 1/72 sheet with both aircraft on it. Actually, these markings are a teeny bit older than that. The 84 FIS markings were first on 72-091 from back in the dark ages of aftermarket decals. The 87 FIS markings are not much newer having first appeared on sheet 72-115. Your choice of kits is limited to Hasegawa or Hasegawa. No one will want to use the ancient Revell kit, even if they could find one as it is a very early 106 and will need some work. Perhaps Academy will see fit to give us a more modern 106A and even do a two seater for us. Wouldn't that be lovely?
Both of these planes are in overall ADC Grey (FS16473) with black nose cones and antiglare panels. The 87 FIS aircraft has nose art (as most of the 87 FIS planes had it in the later years). The 84 FIS version has nice red/white/blue tail markings. I used these markings on a Hasegawa F-106 nearly two decades ago and it made a really neat looking model.
Common markings are provided for two aircraft with insignia for one aircraft. On my sample sheet, one of the fuselage insignias was smudged.
