Backing up a bit, here are a couple of very nice schemes for the F-18D Hornet. both are in the tactical paint scheme of FS 36320 over FS 36375, shades that are quite close to each other even when newly painted. the recommended kit is by Hasegawa and it may well be that this is the only 1/48 F-18D kitted, unless Italeri does one as well.

The first is a scheme that is quite popular and is from VMFA-225. This is the squadron commander's plane with markings in blue.

The other is also a squadron CO's aircraft, this time from VMFA-121. Markings on this one are in green as fits their unit colors. On this one, the tails are black on both sides.

Superscale provides basic data and wing walks for one of the two schemes, though there are insignia for both.
