Superscale has produced quite a number of sheets for the Hasegawa 1/32 F-18A Hornet. I'm sure that they will all fit the superb new Academy F-18C kit and backdating it to an A model isn't that difficult, especially once one gets a decent cockpit for it from Cutting Edge. This particular sheet covers two aircraft, both in the two greys scheme of FS 36320 upper and FS 36375 undersides.
First up is a late F-18A from VX-4, the test squadron that was at Pt. Mugu (it has since been combined with VX-5 and redesignated VX-9).
The other is from VFA-137 'Kestrels' aboard the USS Coral Sea during its final cruise.
Both schemes are colorful, considering the era's penchant for all grey. Any insignia and common data markings will have to come from the kit.
