NOTES:

For Monogram 1/72 kit

One of the most recognized interwar USAAC aircraft is the P-6E, and especially the 'Snow Owls' of the 17th Pursuit Squadron. This unit was based in Michigan at Selfridge Field, just outside Detroit. The base has survived a number of military draw-downs with the 1st TFW leaving in late 1969 and the ANG taking over operations. Today, the 107 FS A-10s and 171 ARS flies KC-135s.

This sheet concentrates on the aircraft of the 17th PS and offers three options. All are OD with yellow flight control surfaces. Two of them have the now well known black and white nose with owl claw landing gear covers. The third has a plain black nose with black landing gear. All of the snow owl markings on the fuselage bands were hand painted and so you get three different ones. Note that the instructions show two planes with the same band, but I'm sure this is just a mis-print.

The Cartograf printed sheet offers common markings for all three planes with the complex nose and landing gear markings for one. The builder will have to do some painting, but the end result will be a very nice looking model.
