This sheet from the now-gone company of Repliscale provided markings for 6 aircraft of the 114 TFTS, Oregon ANG. This unit was the training squadron for ANG F-4 crews and so had a rather extensive variety of aircraft. They flew F-4C Phantom IIs, with those crews going on to F-4E versions getting their final type familiarization when they reached their prospective units.

The result was that they often operated planes in a variety of camouflage schemes. This sheet provides the very basic markings for four of those schemes. Actually, the USAF F-4 has carried seven major schemes with four of those sometimes being seen about the same time. To have one unit contain examples of these is remarkable. But then the 114th had about twice the number of planes as other units. For those wondering, the F-4D school was the 184 TFG Kansas ANG.

This was one of the few 'full size' sheets that Repliscale produced, so let's look at what is on it.

First up is aircraft 63-7704, one of the many MiG killers that were in the unit at one time or another. This one is in the rather dark Euro I scheme. An alternate set of serial numbers for 63-7620 is also provided.

Next, in what is listed as SEA wraparound scheme is 63-7448, one of the earliest F-4Cs built. Though the the drawing shows a standard non-wraparound scheme, those building Phantoms will have the proper color references around from other sources.

In the Hill Grey II scheme is 63-7490.  This scheme is FS 36118 and FS 36270 with all other markings in shades of grey. We call this scheme Hill Grey II after the overhaul facility at Hill AFB that developed this scheme. It is one that Phantoms wore when they were finally retired from active service and many drone Phantoms still wear. Interestingly it has the type of code used in most Hill Grey I schemes (which has 36375 for the underside color, and was applied only to a few dozen planes).

The final option is my favorite because it is easy to paint, is a light color and has full color markings. This, of course, is the overall ADC Grey option. Two serials are available and those are 64-0775 and 64-0888. There apparently wasn't room on the sheet for the full color insignia so those will have to come from somewhere else. The sheet does have two full color tail markings but only one set of fuselage 'U.S. Air Force' decals. Most odd.

The instruction sheet provides a fairly good painting guide, but for the Euro 1 scheme I'd search out something a bit more comprehensive. I'd also see if you can find photos of some of these planes, because I'm thinking that one of the other schemes may well have had the full color fin markings as well.

All in all, if you can find this sheet, it is worth seeking.

Thought you might like to know what has been done.
