Leading Edge Decals has garnered a well deserved reputation for having some of the most well researched and accurate decals on the planet. This latest special scheme continues their concentration on Canadian subjects in general and fancy CF-18 Hornet schemes in particular. This scheme is to commemorate 100 Years of Flight in Canada and is a very striking scheme.
In this 1/48 set, you get two and a half sheets to duplicate most of the fancy parts and the striping. The printing on the decals themselves is crisp and clear with extra bits provided in case they are needed to repair glitches. Of course, the blue and gold will need to be painted on and Leading Edge Decals provides you with a set of masks that take up one and a half sheets. One paints on the gold first then applies the masking to do the blue next. There are paint recommendations provided in the instructions, which are simply superb, showing not only where all the masks are to be applied, but also the decals and all the various stencils. This is further enhanced by a page of color photographs showing the placement of inner gear door markings as well as the cockpit and some other portions of the aircraft.
This sheet is designed for the Hasegawa kit, though it does provide information on those wanting to use the Monogram kit. No info on the Hobby Boss kit is given so you are on your own if that is your choice. In all, it is a sheet that no special scheme or Hornet modeler should overlook.
If you have never used a Leading Edge sheet, you will be in for a real treat!
