The most successful Western Fighter since the Phantom and Mirage III has got to be the F-16. Though the prototype first flew way back in 1976, the aircraft is still in production, a feat that is truly remarkable in today's world of military aircraft. Though no longer called the General Dynamics F-16, the Lockheed version is still built in Fort Worth and is still highly commended as a fine multi-role fighter.
In addition to the thousands built for the US Air Force, it is top line equipment in at least 20 foreign air arms. It is two of these air forces that Mike Grant has chosen as the focus of this decal sheet.
First, though, a word about these decals. Mike produces these on an ALPS printer. This is very much a sideline for Mike and as such, his output is relatively low. Unlike the 'big boys', he doesn't do his sheets in runs of hundreds or thousands. The benefit of this is that he can do subjects that the others won't touch. Being done on an ALPS also means that the sheets are covered by a continuous carrier film so you'll have to cut out each individual decal. It also means that you can't use your industrial strength setting solutions like Solvaset or Champs on them as it will dissolve the decal! However, those I know who have used these decals say that the weaker Microsol/set and other similar solutions work just fine. One final note is that these decals are available in both 1/72 and 1/48 scale.
This particular sheet is for F-16C/D of the Greek and Bahrain air forces. There are serials to allow you to do either a C or a D and enough common markings for one plane. If you use kit decals, however, you can do all of the ones on the sheet. The instruction sheets are in full color and show all aspects of the complicated Greek camo scheme.
There are a number of F-16 kits in 1/72 that you can use for this sheet. Probably the best of the lot is from Hasegawa.
