Five options |
Here is another superb set from Furball Aero-Design. This set is for the F-18E/F Super Hornet. The markings are sized for the Hasegawa offerings, but could fit other kits, though there is no guarantee in that regard. There are five aircraft on this set and there are enough common markings and data markings to do two of the options. For those wanting to do more, it is a simple task to use the kit decals to make up what is needed. The set includes a full data placement guide as well as large markings and color placement guides for each option.
All of these planes are CAG birds so have a considerable amount of black on them. This will require the modeler to do some masking. All of the options appear to be painted in the same basic camouflage scheme using the lighter scheme of FS 36320 over FS 36375. These two shades are very close to each other and not as easily discernible as shown on the markings guide. Some modelers will actually darken the FS 36320 to make it more apparent on the completed model.
So let us take a look at what is offered on this one.
First up is an F-18E from VFA-81 Sunliners. This one has all its various markings in international orange and the aircraft sports a sharkmouth, something one does not see all that often. The black areas and the forward section of the centerline tank will need to be painted.
Next is a VFA-103 F-18F in more 'normal' markings from the anniversary scheme that was on the previous set. This one is standard CAG stuff and will also need the black and in this case some of the chrome yellow bits painted.
The third option is an F-18E from VFA-137 Kestrels. Light on the dark colors for this CAG bird and in this case, the 'black' is actually insignia blue. The airplane has a larger than usual fuselage insignia.
The fourth option is also one with lots of international orange. This time it is an F-18E from VFA-147 Argonauts. This scheme also has a lot of black on the upper spine and canopy surround.
Finally, VFA-154's F-18F has a rather large black area that encompasses most all of the spine and canopy. This one has a rather odd modex which is 1000 and commemorates the CAG's 1,000th carrier landing.
All of these schemes are from the 2012/2013 time frame. Also note that any schemes that require the thin cheatlines have those included in the set. Furball Aero-Design's decals are printed by Cartograf so you know you are getting the best.
