Nine options |
For those of you who have bought the Kitty Hawk TF-9J kit and were waiting for aftermarket decals, your wait is over. This is Furball Aero Design's first sheet in cooperation with Detail and Scale. It provides options for nine different CAG birds from various training commands over the years. All the planes are a base of gloss white with some having large areas of international orange or in one case, da-glo, making for some colorful planes.
Starting off, we have two planes from VT-24 based at Chase Field. First is named 'Red Bear' from 1968 and has small lower rudder stripes. The other is our da-glo entry from 1961, so this would be an early F9F-8T. Note that the pattern for the second option is much more extensive than the first.
Next up are two options from VT-25. First is from 1968 and this one has the unit's green rudder stripes with the standard scheme. The other is from 1967 and is in an overall white scheme with multi-colored tail stripes from 1967. This latter scheme is marked for the Chief of Naval Air Advanced Training. It carries the green stripes on the wing tips.
VT-26 rounds out our Chase Field options with the first being a standard scheme plane from 1968. This carries markings similar to what the Hasegawa F9F-8 offered for many years. Next is an all white version from 1969.
The seventh option is an all white plane from CVW-12 based at NAS Miramar in 1964.
In a 1960 scheme is one also from NAS Miramar, this time with CVG-12.
The final option is an all white plane from VA-45 in 1967. This plane was based at Cecil Field and carries the multi-colored tail stripes.
The decals are superbly printed by Cartograf and Furball provides enough common markings to do two planes. Those wanting to do more can always use the kit data markings. A full color placement and painting guide is included that also has a data placement guide.
Overall it is an excellent choice of markings and one you should seriously consider picking up.
