With the recent release of the Grand Phoenix 1/48 F3H Demon, there became a need for some different markings other than what is supplied with the kit. Granted, the kit markings are superb, but the Demon was in service during the most colorful part of the US Navy's existence (at least in my opinion). This means that there were lots more schemes that could have been done and now we have the first of two new sheets just for that kit. Both aircraft (as with almost all Demons) are in the light gull grey over white scheme. There are enough common markings to do one aircraft.

First up is an F-3B from VF-31 aboard the USS Saratoga in February, 1963. This plane was in service long enough to see the consolidation of aircraft type names and became an F-3B instead of an F3H-2. The tailplane tips on this one are painted red. This particular aircraft was only armed with the two lower guns.

The other is from VF-64 aboard the USS Midway in early 1958. On this one the wing tips are painted yellow. You'll notice that this one carries the 'Freelancers' insignia on the fuselage.

A nice touch from Eagle Strike is that they have provided both the wing walk areas and a nose anti-glare panel in decal form. Makes it a lot easier than masking and painting!
