Gotta love
those F-4s. If you can't have new Bf-109 sheets, then for me, Phantom
sheets will do quite nicely, thank you. Those who have worked or been
around the Rhino have come to really appreciate the brute power of this
aircraft. For decades, the F-4 was the mainstay of USN/USMC fast jets,
until replaced by the F-14 in the mid 1970s and the F-18 about 10 years
later.
This sheet
covers two aircraft. The first one is a TPS (Tactical Paint Scheme) covered
F-4S from VMFA-451 during their last tour in 1986.
The other is from VMFA-235 and is in the much more pleasing overall gloss gull grey scheme (FS 16440). This shade weathered into a semi-matte color.
For kits, you really don't have much of a choice. Hasegawa is the only company that does a dedicated F-4S kit. The Monogram is a J and the ESCI version really isn't up to snuff either.
Enough common markings to do both aircraft, which is nice.
