This sheet is for
'Sturmjager' aircraft from JG 3. These are all FW-190A-8 aircraft and all are
painted in RLM 74/75/76 with black noses and exhaust areas. EagleCals provides
the outlines for the exhaust areas which, like the spinner spirals, are in the
staffel color. All have white bands and the additional cockpit armor. All but
the first plane have canopy armor as well. You'll note that the 12 staffel
planes are equipped with a single 21CM mortar tube, a weapon that wasn't as
successful as was hoped, but if it hit, the target was generally a goner. These
plane often had the cowl guns removed to compensate for the additional weight of
the cockpit armor plating. The instructions state that the black on the nose of
the plane actually had a bluish tint to it and suggest mixing in some blue to
your black. In my opinion, you could get the same if you used any of the
premixed Japanese navy cowling blue-black paints.
First plane is
Yellow 17. It has no armor plating on the glass. The nose gun troughs were
faired over.
Next is Yellow 3. While it does have armor plating on the side of the canopy, there is none on the windscreen. It also has faired over cowl gun troughs and a wide bladed VDM wooden prop as on the 190D-9.
The final 12 staffel 190A-8 is yellow 1. It has all the additional plating and the wooden VDM prop. The cowl gun troughs are not faired over.
The lone 10 staffel 'sturmjager' is white 1. As with its cousins, it has the white Reich defense band on the aft fuselage. It has the 30mm Mk108 cannon in the outboard wing position. While it has the side canopy armor, it has no armored windscreen.
