Based at Hamamatsu AB in Japan, the 303 TFS was formed in 1976 to fly the F-4EJ Phantom II. It became the first JASDF squadron to convert to the F-15J in 1987 and has been flying them ever since. They have a primary interceptor mission and I'm thinking that perhaps they may also be a training unit for prospective Eagle pilots as Hamamatsu is basically a training base.
This special scheme is, from what I understand, a one off for the F-15 and is applied to their display aircraft. The markings denote the 60th anniversary of the JASDF and are really quite complex looking. The set includes two full sheets and a half sheet. In 1/48, the Eagle is not a small airplane. Japanese Eagles are painted in the 'old' F-15 colors of light and dark Compass Ghost Grey which one can see beneath all the digital markings.
The instructions are quite complete and even provide a separate double page of stencil placement information. Also provided is an application sequence, something I think will be quite helpful in applying these markings. The sheet is printed by Cartograf so you know you are getting a quality product. For kits, I'm sure most will choose the Hasegawa 1/48 F-15J when doing this model. I'm not sure if this is one of the MSIP planes, but some additional research should turn up if that is the case. The end result will be a very impressive model.
Check with your local retailer about getting this sheet in.
