NOTES:

The third sheet in the series contains what is probably the most interesting paint job I've ever seen on a Corsair.

The first aircraft is from NAS Olathe, Kansas, which was a reserve base in the 1950s. If the decal makers didn't have proof of the way this was painted, I'd have not believed it. I had always thought, as had CE, that this plane was made up of bits from several others, but apparently that was not the case. It has the then-new light gull grey and white on the upper portion of the plane and most of the underside, but with Dark Sea Blue on the lower outer wings, rudder and tips of the stabilizers. I'm going to bet that this scheme is seen a LOT over the next year or so. It would be my choice.

The other is from VMF-214, and like many Marine F4U-4s is the cannon armed B variant. Since shooting up tanks and troops was much more likely than shooting down enemy planes, the 20mm cannon just had more hitting power.

As a note for those thinking that the colors on the decals seem a bit dark, they are. When I've got white bits on a decal sheet, I have to adjust the image for them to appear against the light blue backing. This darkens all the colors. As you can also see, this is a sheet and a half to make sure all the proper markings are provided.
