This is the second of two new sheets from Caracal Models for a pair of commemorative aircraft from the Polish Air Force. This MiG-29 is adorned with the markings of the Kusciuszko squadron on the upper surface of the fuselage and also has two portraits of Wing Commander Marian Pisarek, who was killed in mid-1942 while leading the 1st Polish Fighter Wing. He was attached to 303 Squadron during the Battle of Britain and went on to 315 and 308 squadron before leading the wing.
As I mentioned in the previous review, I am not sure how many aircraft have been so adorned, but it is a fitting tribute to famous Polish airmen who fought for their freedom, only to have it brutally taken from their nation at the end of WWII. Like the US Navy, unit designations and number change, but the unit history gets transferred from one number to the next.
The sheet itself is superbly printed by Cartograf so you know you are getting the best. Full placement information and a background history are provided as well as a complete data placement diagram. The recommended kit is the recent GWH MiG-29 and the instructions state it will probably work on the Academy kit as well. Perhaps it will also fit the Monogram offering that was recently reissued. One difference on this sheet is that the unit badge is in full color rather than shades of grey.
Photos of the aircraft are available on their web site and just to whet your appetite, here is one of this particular aircraft. One thing I noticed right off is how hard edged the camouflage scheme is. Perhaps this is one that can be masked rather than freehanded. A full camo markings guide is provided that includes the inside of both fins.
