Caracal Models CD 144021: C-133 Cargomaster
This particular Caracal Models sheet is for the recent Roden 1/144 C-133 Cargomaster. This plane was, for a while, the largest operational transport around. It was intended to be a partner to the C-130 and carry loads the Herc could not. Due to a variety of issues, the type's service life was fairly short and was replaced by the C-141.
There are markings for twelve options on this sheet. The aircraft spent its career in unpainted metal, sometimes with a white upper fuselage, sometimes with bands of florescent paint. Of course one never says never or always as one of the options is on overall 16473 ADC grey. All of these options have black on the underside of the fuselage behind the main wheels. This was actually a sort of undercoat material to keep the lower area from stone chip damage.
Here is what's on the sheet:
C-133A Cargomaster 54-0145
C-133A Cargomaster 54-0135
C-133A Cargomaster 54-0140 "Spirit of Santa Monica Schools"
C-133B Cargomaster 59-0524 Air Force Flight Test Center
C-133A Cargomaster 54-0141 (this is the overall grey plane)
C-133A Cargomaster 56-2011
C-133B Cargomaster 59-0529
C-133A Cargomaster 56-2014
C-133A Cargomaster 56-2002
C-133A Cargomaster 54-0136 (this aircraft has large fluorescent panels)
C-133A Cargomaster N200AR Foundation for Airborne Relief
C-133A Cargomaster N199AB
As you can see, there are a couple of civilian operated planes, but the cost of operation was quite high so those did not last long. There are sufficient insignia, data markings and walkway markings for one aircraft and if you wish to use more markings, the Roden decals can be gleaned for data markings.
The instructions are excellent and provide notes where needed, but in most cases, no unit information so you will have to research that if you are so interested. This set of markings is superbly printed by Microscale so you know you are getting the best.
