This is a very early Aeromaster sheet as you can tell from the grey shades instruction sheet. It covers five F4fs, each with different insignia, a nice touch.

First is a VMF-11 aircraft in overall light grey from the 1941 Army-Navy maneuvers. It has large red crosses applied next to or over the national insignia.

From VF-6 in early 1942 comes this F4F-3 with oversize US insignia that were used early in the war to help cut back on losses from over-anxious gunners. As with the next three aircraft, it is in Blue Grey uppers with Light Grey lowers.

From VF-41 is this F4F-3 from Operation Torch. It has yellow surround insignia on the fuselage sides.

Robert Galer's F4F-3 is next. This VMF-224 plane has a red nose and many kill markings.

Finally, a tricolor scheme on the only F4F-4 on the sheet. It is from VC-39 in late 1943.

For kits, most will choose the very nice Hasegawa version, but I'm sure these markings will fit the old Revell or Airfix kits. Be aware that the Airfix kit is more of an FM-2 than an early Wildcat so really would be inappropriate for any of these schemes.

I should also point out that early Aeromaster sheets have a reputation for having many errors in terms of drawing outlines so check your references before using the markings of your choice
