There is a time in all of our lives when we get interested in something, but find that we know little about the subject. This could be anything from astrophysics to cooking to wood working or an interest in military vehicles. For all subjects there are books that will give us the basics that will inspire us to know more.

Such is the case with this book on Tanks from author Michael Green. This book covers basically all the major tanks since  'Mother's' children entered combat in September of 1916 in France.

After an introduction on the subject, the book then is divided into several sections. Each is by country and provides a history of the tank in that country's service up until the present day. All of the major production tanks are covered for each entry and details of its capabilities is also provided. There are color photos of either period vehicles or of those that have been restored or are in museums for nearly every vehicle listed and quality black and whites for some others.

If you can think of a production tank, it is in this book from the Mark IV of 1918 to the Sherman of 1943 to the T-54 of 1968 to the Merkava of today. In all, a superb book for those that want to know more and as such is highly recommended.
