One can justifiably wonder how useful a book on an aircraft that is just reaching squadron service can be, however, for a modeler, the timing is just right.
In the usual IDS format, the book opens with an introduction to the aircraft and its reason for being. It then goes into the development of the aircraft. In this case, that section takes up much of the historical section of the book. It then goes into the sections on the aircraft's use in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The center of the book has the requisite profiles and color images of the few units currently flying the plane as well as some close up color images. This is followed by a couple of pages of pilot's gear and then the meat of the book; page after page of the kind of detail shots that modelers really like.
The book ends with a four page modelers section that covers the few kits currently on the market by Italeri and Hasegawa. Those building the Super Hornet will find this to be an invaluable book for either super-detailing their model or correcting any errors.
