Notes: | # 190 in the series |
Squadron has been on a mini-campaign to update some of its older titles and this one on the F-100 is one of the earliest titles of the 'in action' series. Back when the original book was released, the F-100 was still in squadron service with the ANG, though retirement was looming in the distance. The format then was different with more emphasis on combat stories than on the aircraft variants and photos.
Nonetheless, the series has become a huge success for Squadron/Signal and is pretty well a staple with modelers and historians alike. In each edition there is a developmental history as well as sections on the different major variants. Additionally, there is information on some of the more unusual missions and modifications. This one is no exception and it is nice to see that Squadron has not chosen to repeat most of the images from the previous issue. In fact, the vast majority of pictures in this volume are new to me, which is great!
Special missions covered are the ZEL, Wild Weasel I, and FasFac developments. I do wish that there would have been more images of these particular planes as they are an interest of mine, but in an overview publication such as this, there really isn't space.
A really super issue and one that I know you will enjoy. I expect to see several decal sheets arise from the artwork in this one! :o)
