From the same author that brought you Mustang Survivors comes this book on 25 of the world's top flyable historic aircraft. It spans the time period from WWI to the end of WWII with some incredible aircraft. In addition to the usual P-51s, Spitfires and Corsairs there are Brisfits, Bf-109Es, B-26s, B-29s, Gladiators, Zeros and more.

The book opens up with a nicely done history of the warbird movement and includes some older photos of what was, what is, and what will be in terms of warbird restoration and recovery. Thanks to the end of the Cold War, many of the warbirds to be are being brought out of Russia for restoration to flying status.

Once the opening section is past, it then goes into the histories and current status of 25 very remarkable aircraft. I don't envy the author when he had to make a choice of what to present in the book and I'm sure that there will be a number of readers who will wonder why one of their favorites isn't included. Frankly, there are just too many restored planes flying to fit into a book of this size as it would take many equivalent volumes. What has been chosen are some that are familiar and some that I've seen for the first time on these pages. There are warbirds flying now that I had no idea were in the air.

A real bonus to this book is that the vast majority of the hundreds of photographs are in full color. That includes images of the aircraft as recovered, undergoing restoration and as they are today. It is a feast for the eyes and an excellent read as well. Highly recommended, even if you are not inclined to warbirds. Perhaps future volumes will include some more recent warbirds like the F-86, MiG-17 and F-4C Phantom.
