The most current Russian fighter is the Su-27 Flanker. It is also probably the most capable modern fighter in service today, though I'm sure there will be those who will argue the case. This huge aircraft is the result of years of development and the authors of this latest Specialty Press offering have gone into great detail to cover the design work that went into this aircraft.
Other chapters in the book cover the numerous production types and sub-variants that are all called 'Flanker.' This includes the naval variants which operate from the Kutznetzov as well as the two seat attack aircraft and the two seat trainers.
In fact, one of the best things about this book is that it unravels all the confusion covering the names and designations of the different variants. This includes the weapons that they carry. A 'walk-around' section is included which is quite useful for the modeler.
Quality drawings and a superb selection of color photographs are also part of the package. Finally, a small section for the modeler is included. This section is fairly well done, but like other modeling sections, it tends to fixate on one or two kits and provides only a cursory mention of others. This is probably due to only having two pages in which to provide information.
Once again, an outstanding book from the fine folks at Specialty Press. This is another must have for the Russian aircraft enthusiast.
