It is always nice to see someone decide to do another magazine. It is a journey that is fraught with complications and unforeseen issues so I wish them all the best. This one is marked on the cover as an 'Evaluation Issue' so I cannot say if this is the same as what you'll get when you subscribe or not. There is but a single advertisement from a source that is not Hobby Scale Press and that is Eduard.
There are five articles in this edition. Not surprisingly, two of them are of Eduard kits, both are the initial two articles and the only two that actually mention a manufacturer of the kit. Two of the articles are written by the publisher. These are on the Eduard 1/48 Fokker Dr.I and an unnamed 1/700 USS Alabama (I'm thinking Trumpeter or perhaps Hasegawa). Both of these articles have a lot of in-work photos that show the build and the techniques used by the author to reach the end result. The images are very nicely done and quite clear. Both articles are well done and offer a lot of information for the reader to try.
The other Eduard kit article is on their 1/48 Spitfire IX kit. This one is built in the Spanish school of modeling with heavily accentuated panel lines. Weathering is done fairly well and not overly heavy, which is nice. This article has no in-work images, but lots of photos of the completed kit.
A nice article is done by the publisher's daughter and concentrates on the unnamed kit of Rochelle from the movie 'Planes'. Of course, this is the Zvezda kit and I have to say that I found the article delightful. We as modelers often forget that we started out young and it is nice to see someone this young doing an article.
The fifth article is on a visit to the Mighty 8th Air Force museum in Georgia. This includes several photos of the museum and a few of the exhibits. There is also a section called Model Tech and on this page is information on mixing paint and making filler using corn starch and paint.
Overall impression of the magazine is quite good. The printing is quite large and for me, makes it much easier to read. The editing is well done and there is enough color and photos to make for a well rounded issue. I wish them success and would encourage you to consider getting a subscription to help them along.
